Running out of space when packing your self storage unit is not a good idea, and it's super inconvenient. Use our size estimator to get an idea of what size unit you will need. Rather a little bit of space for something extra than having to take a lot of things home again.

Based on the standardised sizes for various household objects the following should give you an idea of what different sized storage units can contain.

3m x 3m

You can store the contents of a studio apartment in a storage unit this size, include a double bed, a lounge suite, your coffee and side tables and your fridge while still having room for a few boxes.

5m x 5m

Should fit contents of a 2 bedroom flat including beds, lounge suites and some standard sized cupboards and some boxes

8m x 8m

A car could fit in this storage unit quite comfortably along with some household items like a lounge suite and a double bed and quite a few boxes.

12m x 12m

A good place to keep small sailboat, a car or the contents of a three bedroom house

25m x 25m

This sized unit is quite substantial and lends itself to storage of goods being kept for resale or possibly for import and export. This is ideal if a lot od storage space is needed but a whole warehouse is too much.

The following bed sizes are available in South Africa:
Single 91.5cm× 188cm
Three-quarter 107cm× 188cm
Double 137cm× 188cm
Queen 152cm× 188cm
King 183cm× 188cm (equals two single mattresses)
Beds are also available in extra length, which would be 200cm.

General household furniture:
Coffee table 76cmx 122cm
Square end tables 60cm x 60cm
Standard 6 seater dining table 90cm x 152cm
