Self storage on the East Rand has increased in popularity as a result of industrial growth and people moving to Gauteng to be closer to the economic and industrial hubs, of which the East Rand is a large part.

It is possible to download an import permit application from the internet and once all stipulations have been met you will be issued with an import license.

The proximity of OR Tambo airport to the greater East Rand is a huge boon to import export business and also the motivation behind the increased demand for storage on the East Rand.

Because of the different sizes of storage units, large or small quantities of goods can be stored before exporting or once imported, goods can be kept at a self storage facility until such time that you can distribute your stock locally.

Products for which you will not be granted an import licenses and are not allowed to be stored at any storage facility:

• Poached items
  
• Flammable goods
  
• Arms and ammunition, of which explosives is a part
  
• Pharmaceutical items including street drugs
  
• Animals (for agricultural or poaching purposes, in other words, alive or dead.)
  
• Stolen goods e.g. Cars, electronics, jewels etc

These items are not allowed by storage facilities because of the danger they may pose to the immediate environment, these substances can not be owned legally or they were acquired in the perpetration of a crime.
